Superior acceleration by a laser in the Belanger mode

摘要The laser is often taken as having a running-wave form in many investigations of laser-matter interaction. Even though such a running-wave form can correspond to a finite power, it is based on some approximations to the wave equation, and hence it is not a strict solution. The Belanger mode [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 1, 723 (1984)] is a strict solution of the lightwave with finite power. Compared with the running-wave form, whose intensity profile is static in the moving frame, the Belanger mode is more complicated because its intensity profile is temporally oscillating in the moving frame. Numerical experiments reveal its significant capability for particle acceleration. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America
